Title says it all, doesn't it? Yeppers! At 8 months and 3 weeks old, we have a slow but determined mobile baby boy on our hands, just in time for Chrimbly. He had great fun round his granny and Grandpa's house today, discovering what happened if his big sister built him a tower of wooden building blocks and knocked it down for him. (he didn't seem bothered about knocking it down himself though) Our Grandparents' dog's also getting used to him becoming mobile, but both dog and baby seem to sort of respect each other. He'll navigate round her and she'll come up and sniff at him then turn her head away, he's having great fun playing with wrapped Christmas presents though he hasn't managed to actually rip them open yet and he also likes the look of electric wires and cables dangling down from things such as my Grandparents laptop, the television, the lamps by their chairs Etc, so he must've thought he was in a giant activity centre where he could just wander slowly round it and look at some things or touch and play with other things, even though this isn't always a good thing, especially with electric cables and plugs. This is also one of the things I so, so wanted to happen if not before Christmas, around Christmas, so thanks a million Robbie. You just wait till you see your present from me and your Auntie Alsie on Boxing day, lollol. There's certainly a lot of discovering, playing, pressing buttons and things to be done there.

Careful he doesn't pull those cords. typical of children his age. They're more fascinated by the different colored wrapping paper than the gifts themselves. glad he's doing so well
Aw'w'w cheers Joanne. Yeah, we'll watch him round the cables. Gran's also getting him some of those soft fabric blocks as we know he loves his tactile and crinkly textures, lol.
Jen.
Ahhh, mobile babies. They're so cute when they start crawling or cruising around, then after a few days they seese to be cute and become nerve wracking. I'm glad to hear he is getting along with the dog and having fun at Christmas time. I would highly reccomend running cables and chords that run along the floor through empty paper towel or toilet paper rolls and watching him around dangling ones. He might not only chew on them but if he pulls on them he could bring something heavy like the television set or a lamp right down on him self. Happy Holidays.
Yeah yeah, we'll watch the cables and things with Robbie, but his first Christmas went very well, both yesterday and today. All his presents/new toys seemed to be his favourites, especially the ball with the bells and rattles inside and he was absolutely ecstatic with our choice of present, spending at least 5-10 minutes transfixed by the bright flashing colours, lights, music, turn table and wiggling characters when he pressed the green, red, blue and yellow keys on his new Fisher Price learning piano. He's only 4 days off turning 9 months, so spot on with the age reccomendation there, Fisher-Price, lol. (his attention did wander, but his sisters kept playing with his new toy, drawing him back to it, lol. What's even better, is I finally test drove my new Olympus recorder, having just begged mum to help me install the software on my laptop, so I got some audio MP3 footage of Robbie laughing, playing football with the afore-mentioned noisy ball and best of all, playing with his new piano.
Jen.
Wel well well! At 8 months and 29 days old, Robbie's probably a bit bored, only being able to explore everything at ground level on his hands and knees, so yesterday, when he'd had a little nap, Lou went in to check on him, like you do when it's time for the baby to enter the land of the living again, lol, and he had pulled himself up on the bars of his cot and he was, believe it or not, still standing when his mum came in. Wow wee!
Jen.
Yay for finally standing up! Wait until he has walking down. *smile* That's so cool.
Hmmm! He's trying to walk already, using his new piano for suport, but he ends up falling over with it *smiles.
Jen.
Oops! I meant support.
Jen.
Oops! Sorry if I sent a blank post there. IE7's playing up like crazy on this bloodyminded machine. Anyways, I think Robbie's decided bottom shuffling or climbing's the quickest way to get around though the crawlings picked up speed. He's also managed to climb a whole flight of stairs on his own, let alone the normal 4 or 5 steps, so it's high time Lou installed her baby gates at the top and bottom of her stairs, lol.

Has he got something like an excersaucer or a jumper? Those are great for reinforcing the standing and walking skills. An excersaucer is a stationary entertainer that has a base shaped like an inverted doam, so that it can rock and tilt in many dirrections. The baby stands in the middle, held up by a special seat and can shift the unit by rocking or stepping. The unit tilts, it doesn't actually move along the floor. It usually also has a spinning seat and tuns of fun toys around the edge to keep them busy. A jumper is a seat that allows the baby to stand and bounce up and down or spin in the seat, which is again incircled with a great aray of fun interactive toys. I think Robby might enjoy these toys, but if he is too heavy or too tall for them he might also like a ride on toy to push. He wouldn't neccessarily sit on it and move him self around with his feet, but rather would walk around leaning on it and pushing it for balance. It is great for helping cruisers start to walk. It allows them to stop holding onto the wals, and furnature and start exploring the open areas of larger rooms on their feet.
Hmmm! I'm not sure we can get jumpers or exersaucers here in Britain. Shame really as they sound really cool from what I've seen on YouTube. I was going to get him one of those Fisher-Price corn poppers for his first Birthday next month, though I'd have to check with everyone that they're not all getting him baby walkers as well. He got this furry dog wooden rocking chair thing for Christmas when he'd just started crawling.
Jen.
Yes you can get exersaucers here. Hannah has one and loved it from when she was five months old. She's too big for it now but it was the best buy we've made so far. It was the baby einstein one and we got it off ebay. Toys r us have them too.
O right. I never came across them. Anyway, Robbie has a door bouncer, but he wouldn't want to stay in one place too long, bless him, and he'll probably grow out of the jumperoo as soon as he gets it. Despite his low birthweight, 4 lbs 7 when he was born, he's already in age 9-12 months clothes and the jumperoo can only take a maximum weight limit of 26 lbs. I found them eventually on Amazon, lmfao.
Jen.
i wouldn't bother buying a baby walker for a one year old. They're not supposed to go in them once they're walking, which I imagine won't be long so it would be a waste of money imo.
Well the corn popper's not just a ride-on toy, it's a push-along toy as well. They're normally suitable for the 12-24 month age groups aren't they? and it makes an awful lot of noise, so I reckon that'll go down very well with Robbie. The party poppers didn't though, lmfao.
Jen.
Ooo, I'm registered for the baby Einstein one. It comes up as a stationary entertainer on our gift registry, but I looked it over in the store and it's deffinitly an exersaucer. I'm afraid however that my fiance will take it away from the baby and play with the toys him self. We really have way too much fun testing things out in the store. lmao
Well, Little man's 1st Birthday is next Sunday, so this weekend, we've bought him a Tombliboos ride on truck thing with beep beep hooter, carousel thing in the front where you press the button and all the Tombliboos characters spin round inside, it has an adjustable backrest and baby can also push it along.(that's apparently little man's favourite show, Tombliboos). Age suitability - 12-36 months. He's also getting this tepee play tent thing with two play tunnels which can be connected to it and some other little bits and pieces from his parents, brothers and sisters. He's still very mobile but still isn't walking. No. Cruising seems to be his forté at the moment, plus his over large lungs despite his rather mean stature and stunningly good looks. We saw him again last night as our Grandparents had just come back from their holiday house in Cornwall with a truckload of pasties for the family, so I got plenty of mp3 footage on the old Olympus DS player again, especially when he was sat on my knee and he was banging spoons on the dining room table, throwing them on the floor when he'd had enough of them and eating drinks coasters, lmfao. Lou says she's never seen him sit on someone's knee for so long without wanting to go on another cruise, lmfao. If I'm not careful, I won't be going to work, I'll be Lou's childminder lmfao, so she can get on with her pepperpot directories in peace during the week. We're possibly going to have little man's party next Saturday as the kids'll all be there and also, Joe's got this performance with his band, Slayer, on little man's Birthday itself, so we're all probably, congregating round Lou's place for yet another family do. That's about all for now. I'll update again and let all you Richard James Robertson fans know how his 1st Birthday went.

It's official! At 12 months and 3 weeks and one day old, Robbie's taken his first six steps on his own, though he much prefers to walk with the aid of a toddle truck. We got him a new one from ELC today. Now the instructions or "words" for this truck, requiring adult assembily of course, were in the bottom of the box underneath all the individual plastic bags of screws, wheels, hub caps, musical steering wheel, seat, grab handle Etc Etc, so they spent a good 10, 15 minutes with me looking on, working out what the hell went where on the garden table as it was such a nice day outside, but luckily, it was one of those pre-colour snap-together plastic ride-on toys, the only screws required being for the battery cover in the steering wheel. It even reverts to a rocker or sit-on toy and has the trademark under seat storage compartment found in nearly every toddle truck going since the year dot.
Robbie loves these push-along trucks, but his favourite things besides anything tactile at the moment, are mirrors. Wherever there's a mirror, there's Robbie. He was even transfixed by this teeny tiny little mirror on a dolls house bathroom hand basin when he was round our Grandparents earlier this week.
Well, that's about it for now. I'll update again, probably this time next week, when Robbie meets an old but maybe not-so-familiar face, last time he saw Kay (Narcissa Malfoy on here) was when he was just 5 weeks old.
Jen.
Robbie now has walking down, as from Monday the 2nd of June. For a couple of weeks beforehand, he was just one up, one down and holding somebody's hand. Guess it was a combination of his two toddle trucks and his brothers and sisters that got him going at 14 months 4 days.
